Pharmacological action

Pharmacodynamics: Oxytetracycline belongs to tetracycline class broad-spectrum antibiotics,has strong function on staphylococcus aureus, hemolytic streptococcus, bacillus anthracis, tetanus clostridium and gram-positive bacteria such as clostridium,but inferior to β- Lactams. Sensitive to E. coli, salmonella, brucella and pasteurella of gram-negative bacteria,but inferior to aminoglycoside antibiotics and amide alcohols.This medicine has the inhibiting effect on the Rickettsia, chlamydia, mycoplasma, helix, actinomyces and some of the parasite.

Pharmacokinetics:Oxytetracycline’s distribution of apparent volume in small animals is 2.1L/kg,horse 1.4L/kg,cattle 0.8L/kg. Oxytetracycline maimly prototype by glomerulus filtration excretion, renal dysfunction, excretion slowed, extended half-life.The half-life of the oxytetracycline hore is 10.5 hours,cattle 4.3-9.7 hours,pig 6.7 hours,dog,cat 4-6 hours.

Drug interactions

①Use with strong diuretic such as furosemide may increases renal impairment.
②Belongs to the rapid antibacterial drug,may interfere the penicillin class’s bactericidal effect on the bacteria breeding season, avoid to use.
③Use with calcium salt, ferric salt or containing metal ions, calcium, magnesium, aluminum, bismuth, iron and other drugs (including herbal) may insoluble complex, reduce the absorption of drugs.

Indications:

Used to treat the infection of the gram positive and negative bacteria, rickettsia, mycoplasma and etc,such as pasteurella disease, brucellosis, anthrax and e. coli and salmonella infection, acute respiratory infections, glanders, horse strangles and pig mycoplasma pneumonia and etc.

Usage and Dosage:

Intramuscular injection one time each 1kg weight livestock 0.1-0.2ml(Calculated on oxytetracycline 10-20mg)

Adverse reaction:

①Local irritant effect.the hydrochloride water solution of this kind medicine has strong excitant, Intramuscular injection may cause the injection site pain, inflammation and necrosis. 
②Enteric flora disturbance. Tetracyclines has the broad-spectrum inhibition to the horse intestinal bacteria,then the drug-resistant salmonella or unknown pathogens(include the clostridium and etc ) cause the secondary infection, lead to serious or even fatal diarrhea. This situation often appears after high-dose intravenous drug,but low-dose intramuscular injection may occur too. 
③Influence the development teeth and bone.After tetracycline entry the organism combined with calcium, along with the calcium deposit on the teeth and bones.This kind medicine can easily through the placenta into the milk,so the pregnant domestic animal, lactation livestock and small animal are forbidden to use,the milk is prohibited to trade on markets when the lactating cows in the medication period.
④Liver and kidney damage.This kind of medicine has toxic effects on hepatocyte and kidney cells. Tetracycline antibiotics can cause a variety of animal dose-dependent renal function change. ⑤Antimetabolic effect. Tetracycline drugs can cause azotemia,and can be intensified by the presence of steroid medicines,this kind of medicine can also cause metabolic acidosis and electrolyte imbalances.

Precautions:
（1）Dark airtight preservation,keep in cool,dark and dry place. Avoid direct sunlight. Don't use metal containers.

（2）Sometimes horse after inject may cause gastroenteritis, use cautiously.

（3）Do not use the medicines when animals has serious liver and kidneys damage.

Withdrawal Period:

Cattle,sheep,pig 28days, Milk withdral time 7days.
